Privacy policy

AlgoTipp is deliberately sparing with data: no cookies, no tracking, no advertising networks. This policy informs you about the processing of personal data in accordance with Art. 13 GDPR.

This English version is a translation provided for your convenience. In case of any discrepancy, the German version prevails.

2.Data minimisation as a principle

This website is a static information page. It sets no cookies, embeds no external fonts, maps or scripts, uses no analytics or tracking tool and shows no advertising. Beyond what is technically necessary to deliver the page, no personal data is collected.

3.Hosting and access data

The website and the associated data interface (api.algotipp.de) are operated on a server in Germany. The hosting provider (processor under Art. 28 GDPR) is:

IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany.

AlgoTipp is deliberately configured to be sparing with data: the server keeps no access logs containing IP addresses. To establish the connection and deliver the content, your IP address is processed briefly for technical reasons, but it is not stored and not used to identify you. No access log files containing personal data are created.

The legal basis for the technically necessary, brief processing of the IP address for delivery is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the secure and trouble-free operation of the service).

4.Transport encryption (TLS)

All connections are encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. The certificates are issued and renewed automatically through Let’s Encrypt (ISRG). The domain name is disclosed in the process; no content and no personal user data are transmitted to the certificate authority.

5.Contacting us

If you contact us by e-mail (kontakt@algotipp.de), we process the data you provide (e-mail address, content and, where given, your name) in order to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (pre-contractual or contractual communication) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in handling your request). The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer needed and no statutory retention obligations stand in the way.

6.The AlgoTipp app

No user account

The app requires no registration and no account. No names, e-mail addresses or other login details are collected.

Local storage of your own tips and settings

The tips you make in the “You versus the AI” game, your favourite clubs, the display language you have chosen and your Premium status are stored locally on your device. The app does not transmit this data to us; we have no access to it at any time. You can remove the data from your device at any time by clearing the app data or uninstalling the app.

Device backup by the operating system

If you have switched on the operating system’s backup on your device, the operating system includes the app data named above in that backup – on Android in the backup of your Google account, on iOS in your iCloud or computer backup. This keeps your tips and settings when you change devices or reinstall the app; when you set up a new device they can also be transferred directly from device to device.

This backup is a function of the operating system, not of the app: it takes place in your own account with the respective provider (Google Ireland Limited or Apple Distribution International Ltd.) and is subject to that provider’s privacy policy. We do not receive the backed-up data and cannot access it. You decide in your device’s system settings whether a backup is made; there, or in your Google or Apple account, you can also switch the backup off and delete backups that already exist.

Retrieving the forecast data

To display the matchdays, the app retrieves public JSON data from api.algotipp.de that is identical for everyone. In doing so, your IP address is – as described in section 3 – processed only briefly for delivery and is not stored. No analytics or tracking SDKs and no personalised advertising are used.

Premium subscription and purchases

The Premium subscription is handled exclusively through the respective app store: in the Google Play Store by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, and in the Apple App Store by Apple Distribution International Ltd., Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Hollyhill, Cork, Ireland. The respective store operator is independently responsible under data protection law for processing the payment; its privacy policy applies.

We receive no payment data – neither card or account details nor your name or billing address. The app merely asks the store whether an active subscription exists and stores the result (active: yes/no) exclusively locally on your device. We do not operate a server of our own for verifying purchases; no personal data is transmitted to us in the process.

The legal basis for providing the Premium features you have booked is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the contract of use). You manage and cancel the subscription in your store account.

7.Disclosure to third parties

Your data is not disclosed to third parties, except to the hosting provider named in section 3 within the scope of commissioned processing, and where we are legally obliged to do so. The subscription handling described in section 6 takes place directly between you and the respective app store operator – we do not transmit any personal data to it. The device backup described there is not a disclosure by us either: it is a function of the operating system in your own account. We do not transfer data to third countries outside the EU/EEA.

8.Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right of access (Art. 15), the right to rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20), as well as the right to object to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Art. 21). An informal message to kontakt@algotipp.de is sufficient to exercise these rights.

9.Right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for the controller is:

Thüringer Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit (TLfDI) – the Thuringian State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information – Häßlerstraße 8, 99096 Erfurt, Germany.
